The good people at Finnebrogue have done it again. My Sainsbury’s is now selling their pork sausages. Like the bacon these are sans nitrites and nitrates. As I’ve written, there are some people out there, Mark Sisson included I believe, who argue that nitrites are not that big a deal. I’m not so sure. If I can avoid them, I will.
The ingredients are good overall. I’d like a little more pork, but this is good: British outdoor bred pork (87%), water, gluten free crumb (rice flour, chickpea flour, cornflour, salt, dextrose), salt, natural flavouring, dextrose, ginger, black pepper, nutmeg, mace, pimento.
I’m not keen on the dextrose given that it’s glucose derived from corn. However, there must not be that much in the sausages since the total carbs per 100g is only 2.4g. So, as a once in a while treat, it’s a good option.
How do these taste? These are the best tasting sausages that I can remember. They are really yummy. I wish my grocery sold the Cumberland’s.
If you’re in the UK, I think they’re worth a try.
