Diabetic Dilemma – Colds and Flu

So my blood sugar was elevated for much of last week. Not into the double digits, but certainly off my goal of waking up below 6.0 mmol/L. The culprit was an intense cold from Saturday to Tuesday.

Diabetic readers will know that colds, influenza and infections will raise blood glucose. Why? Because the body is trying to fight off something and is not able to maintain normal blood glucose at the same time. At least that happens with me.

So I was waking up in the sevens and low eights unfortunately. I don’t think there is really much I can do about this one to be honest. Maybe if the cold is very mild, I would think about a mini-fast. However, this was not mild. A fast would just make me weaker. Counterproductive.

I’m back to 100% now, but my blood is still a little high. The solution: three day fast. I’ve just finished day one and feel fine.

We’ll see how this week goes. I’m hitting the gym very hard again with at least 30 minutes of moderate cardio.

I also recovered from my cold very quickly. I have a supplement protocol I follow which I’ve picked up from Dr Mercola and Mark Sisson. More on that tomorrow.
