Treat Week – Shropshire Red

I stumbled across this cheese the other week. I had never heard of it and was going to give it a pass until I saw it had a “strength” rating of seven. Most of the cheddars I eat in England tend to be a five or a six. I gave this one a whirl.

It’s a lot like Red Leicester which I’ve written about before. It’s a little bit creamier; strong Red Leicester tends to be crumbly. This is a very good cheese. It’s old, strong and delicious. It tastes like it is a close cousin to cheddar. If you can find it where you are, give it a go!
