Cautionary Tale – Pseudo Sciatica

My Pain is in the Glue and Thigh

I have a major character flaw. I’ve had it for as long as I can remember. When it comes to injuries, I do one of two things:

1) I push through the pain, which can lead to further injury.

2) I do stop training but do not give myself enough recovery time. I then go back to my routine and aggravate my existing injury.

Well I did the latter on Wednesday. I’ve been sticking with the upper body ever since the PS started. Wednesday, I did some kettle-bell swing squats. It felt fine at the time. However, the pain started coming back in my left glute on Thursday. Fortunately, it hasn’t got as bad as the original injury, but I went from 90-95% recovered to 55-60%.

I was very anxious on Thursday night, as I worried I’d be back to square one in the morning. I think the aggressive rehabbing on Friday limited the damage I caused from the Wednesday workout. More rehabbing today has reduced the pseudo sciatica to nuisance level happily.

Still, if there are any of you out there like me, which is to say stubborn and stupid in this realm, try not to push yourself. Even though I’m in very good shape for my age, I still get it in my head that I still have the body of a 20 year old.

Stupid.
